Marty Solomon has litigated for title insurers around the country for the past 20 years, first with Carlton Fields and now with Awerbach | Cohn. He is a past chair of the FLTA Defense Roundtable committee, and first attended the Roundtable 17 years ago, with founding member Mark Brown. He typically handles title curative litigation, coverage litigation, bad faith defense, defalcations, and closing protection letter claims. He is an Executive Council member of the Florida Bar’s Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section (RPPTL). He has also been active with the Title Insurance Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS). He earned a B.A. in political science and sociology from New College of USF in Sarasota, and a J.D. from Tulane. He enjoys bicycling, photography, and sailing.
Sabine is State Counsel for Westcor Land Title Insurance Company in its Maitland office. She has been with Westcor since 2005 and is in charge of the Florida underwriting department as well as assisting with commercial underwriting. She also teaches at Westcor’s annual seminars and various agent events. Sabine is originally from Germany and grew up in a military family. She received her undergraduate degree in legal studies from the University of Central Florida and her J.D. from the University of Memphis. Sabine was briefly in private practice but starting in 1999 at American Pioneer Title Insurance Company, her career has been in title insurance underwriting and claims. Sabine is a member of the Real Property Probate and Trust section of the Florida Bar and serves on the Title Issues and Standards, Commercial Real Estate and Title Insurance and Liaison Committees, as well as being a member of CREW Orlando. When not working Sabine loves spending time at the beach or the barn with her husband Joel and 9-year-old daughter Hailey.
Melissa S. Scaletta is Vice President, Associate General Counsel, and Chief Underwriting Counsel of Attorneys’ Title Fund Services, L.L.C. Melissa is a Florida board certified real estate lawyer. She has authored numerous articles for Fund publications and serves on the editorial boards for the Fund Title Notes and Fund Concept. Melissa has presented various seminars pertaining to transactional law and title insurance for the Florida Bar, FLTA, the Fund Assembly and Fund Affiliate Assembly. She has served as a member of the Faculty & Steering Committee of the Florida Bar Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section Real Estate Certification Review and Advanced Practice Course since 2006. Melissa also serves on several committees of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar and she is the author of the Marketable Record Title Act and Uniform Title Standards chapter of Florida Real Property Title Examination & Insurance (Fla. Bar CLE 9th ed. 2019). Melissa and her husband Tony reside in Orlando, where they raised their two children. |
Len Prescott is Vice President, Florida State and Regional Counsel and Regional Underwriting Director for First American Title Insurance Company. With an extensive background in securities, insurance, and real estate, Len uses his experience and broad industry perspective to oversee the Company’s Florida State and Regional Underwriting Departments. Aside from his leadership and management responsibilities, Len is a very active transactional underwriter and has underwritten many of the most complex and largest title transactions in Florida. Along with crafting solutions to the most challenging underwriting issues, Len develops and presents educational programs for agents and production staff throughout the state and is regularly featured as a national speaker for the American Land Title Association (ALTA) and other state and regional title associations. He frequently represents the interests of the members of the Florida Land Title Association (FLTA), First American, and its agents before the Office of Insurance Regulation, the Florida Department of Financial Services, and the Florida Legislature. Len has been a contributing author for many changes to Florida statutes of importance to the title industry including the treatment of Construction Liens, Estoppels, Property Information Reports, MRTA, Lis Pendens, and Homestead. Prior to joining First American, Len previously served as Underwriting Counsel in Miami for several of the largest national title insurance underwriters. He has served multiple past terms and is a current member of the Board of Directors and Immediate Past President of the FLTA and is an active Member and Sponsor of the Executive Council of the Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section (RPPTL) of the Florida Bar, currently serving as a Vice-Chair of RPPTL’s Title Insurance Committee. He is an active member of the Florida and Maryland Bar Associations. Len graduated, summa cum laude, from the University of New Hampshire, is a member of the Academic Honor Society Phi Beta Kappa and received his Doctor of Law from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Jeff Hall is Division President of Florida Title & Guarantee Agency based in Sunrise, Florida and has nearly 20 years of experience in the financial services and title industry. Jeff began his title career with a leading foreclosure law firm in Michigan, Trott & Trott, P.C., working directly with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac on loss mitigation pilot programs as well as alternative post sale options such as the “Cash for Redemption” program to limit GSE holding time and costs. After moving to Florida, Mr. Hall worked for Coldwell Banker NRT overseeing many aspects of their title vendor management and streamlining the vendor selection process and oversight programs for multiple clients. Later, he moved on to work directly for Fannie Mae in their National Property Disposition Center after their expansion of the South Florida regional office first as an Asset Analyst and then as an Assistant Vice President and Asset Manager. Jeff then served as the Chief Operating Officer for a large-scale creditor’s rights and real estate closing law firm who acted as designated counsel for FNMA and FHLMC before joining FTGA to oversee all title and closing operations in 40+ regional and branch offices throughout Florida.
Andrea Somers is the Operations Manager for Florida Agency Network (FAN), a conglomerate of independent title agencies, settlement service providers, and innovative technology companies within the State of Florida. In this role, she is responsible for formulating strategy, providing leadership, oversight, and management of the company’s ancillary divisions. She is a licensed title agent and veteran in the field with over 20 years’ experience. She began her career as the National Vendor Manager with TransContinental Title, a national title company. In this role, she was responsible for managing a nationwide network of title abstractors and mobile closers. She moved into managing the REO closing division for a foreclosure law firm before accepting her current position at FAN in 2015. In 2019, Andrea was awarded the widely recognized CAMS® credential by the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists® (ACAMS®). This designation is awarded to professionals who successfully demonstrate their aptitude and expertise in anti-money laundering detection and enforcement by completing a rigorous examination on terrorist financing methods, best practices, and global key legislation to aid in developing defenses for financial institutions. Andrea is an active member of the Florida Land Title Association, currently serving as Chair of the Cyber Security Committee. In her spare time, she volunteers as a student mentor for Hillsborough Education Foundation. Andrea’s passions include paddle boarding, kayaking, and spending time outdoors with her family. |
Lindsay R. Hall Harrison Chair, Governmental Affairs Lindsay R. Hall Harrison is Florida
Underwriting Counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Company. Lindsay has practiced
as a litigation attorney representing lenders and servicers, Managing Partner
of a boutique real estate law firm and title company, and prior to becoming a
title underwriter held the position of Associate General Counsel of a national
mortgage lender. Lindsay joined the FLTA Board of Directors in 2018 and served
as Chair of the Education Committee in 2019/20 and serves as Founding
Co-Chair/Trustee of the FLTA Charitable Action Foundation. Lindsay also serves
as Co-Chair of the ALTA PRIA Liaison Work Group and is also member of PRIA, the
Property Records Industry Association, the Florida Bar Real Property Probate
and Trust Law Section, and Central Florida CREW. Lindsay is a past board member
of both the state chapter of Florida Association for Women Lawyers and local
chapter Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers, the Women’s Counsel of
Realtors Central Florida Chapter, and A Gift for Music. Lindsay also currently
serves as an elected official sitting on City Council for the City of Maitland,
Florida.
