The main are of concern for us = is how=20 will we prepare for the expiration of the legislatively set rate rule = which will=20 expire in July of 2002. There has been a lot of discussion and an = industry=20 position is not being developed. Your input is vital so please forward = any=20 thoughts you may have.
It is also time to send in your = registration for this year's convention which will take place November = 1st, 2nd,=20 and 3rd at the newly renovated Sarasota Hyatt located adjacent to the = Sarasota=20 Quay shopping and art district. Those who have not been to Sarasota will = find it=20 a great city, with unique shops downtown and St. Armands shopping = circle, just a=20 few miles away. For art lovers there are many galleries as well as the = famous=20 Ringling Art Museum and Mansion, and of course the beaches.
This year's convention will = begin with=20 important committee meetings on Wednesday, followed by interesting and=20 informative speakers, a demonstration of electronic closing, and the = general=20 session on Thursday. Thursday evening we will return to underwriter = agent=20 functions.
Friday we will hear about = developments on=20 the title insurance rules and what we can expect when the existing = legislation=20 expires in less than two years. There will be golf at one of the leading = courses=20 in the area Friday afternoon. The annual banquet will be Friday = evening.
This convention is designed for = meeting=20 with friends, learning and relaxing, so don't wait. Register today to = get the=20 early sign up rates and make your reservations early.

In Memory of = Bob=20 Crisp
Robert F. "Bob" Crisp passed away on = August=20 28th of this year in his beloved town of Marianna. Although = Bob was=20 born in Jacksonville he lived most of his adult life in Marianna. A = graduate of=20 Marianna High School, Chipola Junior College and Florida State = University=20 Marianna was truly Bob's home. He served in the Marine Corps achieving = the rank=20 of major. He was president of the Ormond Insurance Agency and Florida = Land Title=20 and Trust Company for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1998. A = long time=20 member of the Florida Land Title Association, Bob was a well respected = and well=20 liked title man. Bob was a devoted family man and 50 year member of the = First=20 Baptist Church in Marianna serving in many leadership positions = including deacon=20 and church treasurer. Those wishing to honor Bob with a gift are = encouraged to=20 send a donation to the Chipola Junior College Foundation, 3094 Indian = Circle,=20 Marianna, FL 32446 or to the charity of your choice. Bob will be missed = by the=20 many friends he has made over his long career in title insurance. =
Proposed = By-Law Amendment=20 Enclosed
A By-Law Amendment proposed by the = Board of=20 Directors is enclosed with this newsletter. The purpose of the amendment = is to=20 permit attorney agents to become full participatory members of the = Florida Land=20 Title Association. With the number of eligible corporate agent members=20 declining, it was felt by your Board of Directors, that this amendment = allowing=20 attorney agents to join would increase the number of title agent members = and=20 include a segment of the title insurance delivery system that has not = been an=20 active participant in our Association.
We would like to congratulate those = who have=20 passed the CLC/CLS test. This is a difficult and rigorous exam, and to = pass it=20 deserves recognition:=20
